The first time I came across this unit, it was the previous model, the Roberts Sound 23 which was about two years ago. I was impressed by its compact size and stylish piano black finish. The first time I listened to it I was completely blown away. This was no ordinary CD/Dab radio.

The sound was amazing; it had huge presence, and produced a sound worthy of a large Midi System. Even on low volume settings, its 3D stereo sound had an amazing depth to it. At the time, I was so impressed that I decided to get in touch with Roberts and compliment them on such an amazing product. I felt it was far superior to the nearest competitor, the BOSE Soundwave as it had a DAB radio built-in. Whilst complimenting their amazing product, I also took the time to suggest some minor improvements that I felt would take it to a whole new level.

I felt it needed a chunkier remote control, as the one it came with was rather

fiddly. It was also crying out for a decent Ipod dock on the top. Roberts seemed to appreciate my feedback as six months later they launched the Sound 53.

I have to say that I was not disappointed, it has lost none of its spectacular musical ability but it has gained some extra features which make it a must buy if you are in the market for a compact high end sound system.

Do not be fooled by the compact dimensions of this stunning unit. This machine really packs a punch, whether you want simple background music at a dinner party, or thumping dance tunes afterwards, this little gem can deliver the goods. Simply insert you favourite CD, or better still, dock your Ipod onto it and listen to whatever takes your fancy. If you don’t fancy your own music then you can switch to the excellent DAB tuner and have access all sorts of music from the many digital stations. If you don’t find the station you want on digital, you can still revert back to its regular FM tuner instead.

Here is a list of all its features:

  • Dock for iPod
  • Record from CD and radio to SD/USB
  • MP3/WMA playback via CD/SD/USB
  • DAB/FM RDS wavebands
  • Multi function remote control
  • 20 Station presets

As I say, this really has to be heard to believe, so drop by the shop some time and ask for a demo. I promise you, you’ll be amazed at this little powerhouse.

We got the ‘before’ model of this (without the i-pod) from Mook and he is spot on. The sound is just incredible. You will not believe the quality you get from this one small box. I love it because there’s no wires leading to speakers, no mess spilling out from the back of the box – if you get the chance go down to the shop and have a listen – I assure you, you will be well and truly impressed.

Ive listened to the Bose and I was very impressed but the price put me off. I’m gonna pop down the shop and have a listen to this one. If it sounds as good as you say, I’m having one.

Just bought one!!. I popped into the shop and Mike gave me a demo. I have to say WOW!! I was blown away. Mike was really helpful and let me play my own CD’s. The price was as cheap as I’d seen on the internet. As it was my first time in the shop I took the time to have a look around. What a lovely store. Loads of choice, good quality brands, and best of all, great freindly local service. I’ll be back there again when I next need something electrical.
