Bosch WTW84560GB A-rated Tumble dryer

If you’ve ever been a teenager or had teenage kids, and a tumble dryer, you’ll know what I’m about to say.

Never turn it on. Somehow, unless Noah is drifting past looking for volunteers, dads won’t allow the tumble dryer to be used. Dads think tumble dryers don’t run on electricity, instead they like to burn crisp £20 notes tooperate. As a teenager, you’ll no doubt have been shouted at for

using a tumble dryer when “there’s a perfectly good washing line” outside.

Hot stuff!

Hot stuff!

Perhaps you don’t want the whole world seeing your Garfield boxer shorts though eh!

So, Bosch have come up with a compromise. The WTW84560GB is the first tumble dryer in the world to consume less than 2KwH of energy for a standard programme. That means it’s 40% more efficient than a standard A-rated dryer!! With a 7kg capacity and a variety of features, it’s the ideal replacement for that £20 note burning machine of old.

It manages to be this efficient using a number of new technologies, the most important of which is the self-cleaning condensor. This effectively removes the lint which usually gathers on the condensor and lowers its’ efficiency, by using the water it removes from the clothes to wash and pump the lint away. By doing this it can use less energy through the whole cycle, unlike a normal condensor dryer which gets “linted up” and has to use more and more energy to dry properly.

Being a Bosch Logixx model, it’s also packed full of energy and time saving features. It has no less than 15 “Clothes Care” programmes to ensure you don’t spoil clothes in the dryer, and to ensure they don’t become too dry or scratchy. It has 3 different drying levels for cottons and easy care, and a number of timed programmes including a super quick 40 minute programme. All this as well as a time delay and time remaining indicators mean you have full control over your laundry at all times.

As this is a condensor dryer, you’ll need to remove the water its collects from the clothes. This is done via the detergent drawer location, meaning no bending down to pull out a tank and getting water everywhere in the process. In addition to this there is a end of cycle buzzer and a very useful child lock (to keep those teenagers out!)

The only downside is the price. At nearly £700 it isn’t cheap, however it IS worth noting it will save you approximately £70 per year in running costs so it will pay for itself during its expected lifecycle. Couple this to a happier teenager AND you’ll be saving the planet a little bit too, and you can’t go far wrong!

If it saves as much electricity as you say it does, then I could be that it is actually a ‘bargain’ for that price. Plus you get to do your bit for the planet.
