Liebherr CUP2221 Fridge freezer - In store now! – £359.99

Over the last few years,  the number of good quality,  small fridge freezers has dwindled to almost zero.  Gone are the days of the LEC machines that were 55cm wide and ideal for flats.  Bosch, Zanussi, even Hotpoint have come away from producing small fridge freezers.  Which leaves us in the position of only being able  to supply “non-brand” appliances such as amica or Iceking which,  whilst being adequate,  are not great quality

Thats where the Liebherr CUP2221 comes in.  At just 136cm (4′ 6″) tall,  and 55cm (21 1/2″ )wide,  it’s the perfect,  high quality, small fridge freezer.  It’s also A+ rated for energy efficiency which is unheard of at this end of the market!

Liebherr are a little known,  but very high quality, German manufacturer of refrigeration appliances.  They produce a wider range of fridges and freezers than any other manufacturer, and make some odd sized appliances for those tricky areas in the home.  They give 2 year Warranties on all thier appliances and have even produced appliances on behalf of Miele in the past!

The CUP2221 is a 50:50 split fridge freezer designed for use in flats, sheltered accomodation or in situations where large capacity isn’t required.

Despite its size,  its a fully featured appliance,  including safety glass shelves, Automatic fridge defrosting and the “Smart frost” system in the freezer.

“Smart frost” is a unique system,  which, whilst not Frost Free,  reduces frost levels in the freezer to the point where defrosting once every 12 months or so would be considered reasonable. Thats half as often as a traditional manual defrost unit!   We always suggest running the freezer down before Christmas anyway,  and defrosting then,  if need be.

It works on a very similar princible to a chest freezer, with the evaporator plates placed inside the cabinet.  This immedietly reduces the surface area inside the freezer and cuts down on frost build up.

Capacity wise,  the Liebherr range is generally high capacity compared to it’s rivals,  and the CUP2221 is no exception.  The capacities are as follows

Fridge capacity – 142 Litres

Freezer capacity – 54 Litres

In addition to a decent capacity, glass shelves and the “Smart Frost” system,  the CUP2221 features stylish Easy Grip bar handles to make life easier for those with dexterity issues.

Overall,  you end up with a high quality,  compact, reliable and well designed product,  fo not much more than a cheap and cheeful equivelant!
