Will I suffer signal loss with a HDMI Extension?
Friday, 04 Dec 2009 ~ Posted by Mook
Sir, I have recently bought a 27″ iMac that I am planning on extending to my Pioneer Kuro 42″ Plasma. However, it’s not very close so I have purchased a Male to Female HDMI cable extension and an optical lead coupler. Am I right in assuming I should suffer absolutely no degredation in quality as the signal is purely digital?
Hi,
Good question. You are correct in theory, however you don’t say how long the extension you have bought is. Although HDMI is a digital signal, the signal can go weak over long distances. The recommend maximum length is 5 Metres, although a high quality 15m cable may also be used without the need for any additional amplification.
Must say, thats gonna be a pretty sweet setup, becasue the Kuro’s are Gorgeous sets. Lucky thing
Anyway, Hope that Helps
