Should I buy a washer dryer? I\’m thinking it might be better to be able to wash and dry in one go? I do a lot of washing so it might end up on all the time. What do you suggest?

I would say you should only really buy a washer dryer if you really don’t have the space for a seperate washer and dryer, not even a compact dryer. In theory, washer dryers can do both jobs in one machine and you can literally put your dirty clothes in and get them back a couple of hours later, washed, dried, and maybe even smelling of roses. In practice though, most wash loads contain several items which can’t be tumble dried, so you still have to seperate out the load anyway. More importantly, washer dryers have a smaller capacity, generally don’t wash all that well and they certainly can’t dry efficiently as there’s simply not enough holes in the drum for the air to flow properly! Plus, if the machine’s in use, you can’t dry a load while washing another and vice versa. They’re just not very flexible.
Perhaps the biggest problem with washer dryers is their reliability though, and if you do a lot of washing we would definitely advise you against buying one. There are good machines out there, but even the best of them simply don’t seem to last anywhere near as long as the manufacturers’ equivalent washing machine…
