Digital’s not the scary thing it seems! Remember, it’s up to you how you choose to use digital equipment…you can still just press “1″ for BBC1 and so on, same as always. If you don’t want it to be complicated, it needn’t be. Digital TV (or “Freeview”, to give it it’s commercial name) does offer a lot more channels and again, you can simply carry on looking at your old-fashioned TV guide and pressing the number you want.

There are two main ways of “going digital”. The cheapest way is by getting a set-top box to convert your old TV for digital. This works well enough, but the downsides are that you have two remote controls to juggle, the boxes often need resetting, and your old telly really can’t make the most of digital anyway. By far the better option is to buy a modern flatscreen TV set with digital built into it.
