Hi there Mook, what can you recommend to replace my old Stoves Cooker?
Wednesday, 14 Oct 2009 ~ Posted by Mook
Hi there Mook, I at present have a Stoves Heritage freestanding oven, and now I need some spares, which you have guessed it, are now obsolete. So if I need to change my freestanding oven do you have any recommendations. I would like it to be well made and sturdy, and be able to get the spares!! So the best quality, do you have any makes you think should be avoided. It doesn\’t have to be a Stoves by the way. I have heard of Lofra, are they any good? But your advice would be greatly appreciated. And are the induction hobs going to be a gimmick. Of, I would like it to be fairly quiet, as the Stoves is really noisy.
Hi, Thanks for the question. I’ll assume that you are after Stainless steel, as you have been looking at the Lofra cookers. From our experience, the Lofra haven’t been as reliable or well built as we had hoped. So they fall short of your requirement for something well made and reliable. Induction is a great idea, but very few freestanding cookers have induction hobs, so choices would be limited. The induction system however is VERY effective. Almost as responsive as gas, safer that traditional electric hobs and simple to use.
My favorite freestanding Electric cookers at the moment are from the Electrolux group, and the best of these would probably be from the AEG division. They do some very stylish, freestanding, stainless steel, electric cookers with Touch controls and large twin ovens. Not cheap mind at around £1100.
Obviously if the budget is tighter, you could come down into the Hotpoint range, where you will find a few Ceramic hob models in Stainless, but i’d be inclined to say they are not as well built as the electrolux group products (AEG, Zanussi, Tricity, Electrolux).
Stoves are a tricky one. From what I’VE seen, they are fairly plasticky and tinny. That’s not to say all models are like that, but i don’t think you could compare your old machine with a new one.
Bosch do some freestanding electric cookers, single cavity, with induction hobs and pyrolytic cleaning. These might be worth looking at also.
If you can, pop in and see us for some brochures, or, narrow down some more options (width, colour, number of ovens) etc, and i’ll narrow down your choices.
In the meantime, what is the model number of your old machine, as i’ll see if I can get spares for it through my channels.
Hope that helps
Mook
