Hi, I am looking for two lcd tvs for my teenage girls for xmas, preferably 26 inch. What do you suggest with a competitive price? I don’t mind a ‘lesser’ brand make, so long as they’re pretty reliable, and would be even better with built-in dvd.

Thanks for the question.  It’s quite a tricky one to answer,  because I’m not 100% sure the product you want exists.

Trouble is,  all the superstores and supermarkets sell their “own brand” TV’s.  You’ll have seen names youve never heard of making huge ranges of panels.

In our opinion these sets can be more trouble than they are worth.  Firstly the actual picture quality is never as good as a quality named brand and we’ve found them to be unreliable and unrepairable whilst being difficult to return without a reciept.  However our main bugbear is the software that runs them,  and quite often their built in DVD can be Buggy and problematic.

That is to say,  not easy to use,  and quite often needs turning off at the wall because it’s crashed.  The DVD’s themselves can get stuck and again require resetting.

So,  as far as “lesser brands” go,  there’s not a lot I can offer.

However,  one named brand we do deal with does do a 26″ with built in DVD player,  but it won’t be supermarket money. It’s the Toshiba 26DV713.

It will however be better quality and more reliable in the long run.  We have found Toshiba’s TV’s to be very very good.

Knowing how cheap the supermarket sets can be,  I think the Toshiba at its usual price might be over the top  (its nearly £400)  so I would try to get them as cheap as possible for you.
