There is simply not enough “information” on a VHS cassette to display a High definition image. In fact, the accepted standard for what we call “High definition” is 720p. Thats 720 lines of details.
A DVD disc can be between 500 and 600 lines depending on how it is connected to the Tv, but a VHS will struggle to get past 400 lines, even when interlaced. thats why DVD looks so much better than Video.
Complicated I know, but simple in the long run. The only way to watch a film in HD is Via Blu-ray
